Most certainly! We wouldn’t be flying everyday if it wasn’t! Our aircraft has been issued a valid authority to fly by the SACAA, and we are beyond obsessive about the maintenance of our plane. A microlight is a wing with an engine attached to it. So, if the engine quits, it is perfectly capable of gliding back to safety.

We don’t like flying in bad weather, and we’re pretty sure you won’t enjoy it either!
The weather in Plettenberg Bay can change quickly, but typically the best flying times are early mornings and late afternoons, so that’s when we fly!

You are welcome to call us if you have any questions about the weather, but don’t judge the day by rain at your point of departure. It could be totally different at the airfield. If it is unsafe to fly due to the weather, we will make every effort to contact you before you are scheduled to head out. For this reason, please keep your phone charged, on and with you for the 18 hours before the flight. In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the flight, we will do our best to work with your schedule to come back out for a flight, when it suits you.

We can take people of about 100 kg’s or less. We do not have an age restriction as such, but we recommend a minimum weight of 30 kg’s, this is for safety reasons, the seat belt might not fit securely on smaller children. We do not have a height restriction either, as long as you can fit comfortably and safely in the seat.

Unfortunately no. The microlights have only one passenger seat.

Microlight Close Up

It is important that you are at the airport 15 mins before your flight time in order to handle the pre-flight requirements such as paperwork, briefing and fitting a flight suit if necessary.

This may differ depending on which flight you choose to take. For the longer flights. We suggest a trip to the bathroom, as we will be unable to stop halfway through your flight.

The microlight flight is a truly amazing experience. You may be a bit nervous, or frightened, but with us, you are in good hands! If the Pilot for any reason feels that he cannot continue with the flight (sudden bad weather or other reasons), he will tell you, and happily reschedule for another day or time.

Make your way to the Plettenberg Bay Airport. If you don’t know where that is, take a look at the map on our Contacts page OR enter the co-ordinates into the GPS on your cell phone; 34°05’22″S and 23°19’33″E

The Plettenberg Bay airport is not very big, with only one main building. A Micro Flights team member will be waiting for you, or if you’re a little bit early, feel free to browse through the brochures at the entrance, or relax in the waiting area.

No cameras, cell phones or anything loose in your hands is allowed. The reason for this is that we will be soaring along at 100km per hour in an open cockpit with the engine and propeller directly behind us. If anything were to come loose, it would go straight through the prop. So for safety reasons, we are very strict on this rule.

Unfortunately, the answer is still no. However, we do have one of our own GoPro camera’s securely fastened to the aircraft. We would be more than happy to share the photographs and/or videos, taken during your flight, with you. For more information on this and the costs involved, chat to our staff before your flight takes off.

We recommend wearing anything that is comfortable for the day. For the ladies, we would recommend jeans or trousers, rather than a dress or skirt, as well as a warm jersey or jacket. It can get rather cold up there!
Before we take off, we will supply you with a helmet fitted with ear phones and mic which will keep you in contact with the pilot. As a general guideline, rather don’t wear anything that is loose fitting, or that can fly off during the flight. Slops and sandals are fine, as long as they have a back strap and are secure on your feet. Barefoot is also fine!

Doug Braum has been flying for 7 years and has logged over 1500 hours flying time. He has a perfect safety record and is extremely knowledgeable about the area. Go ahead and ask them as many question as you like, he loves showing off hisskills and knowledge!
